Research direction · Concept design

Water where it matters.
Evidence behind every decision.

We are developing the concept for a standalone outdoor sprinkler research system. The first step is a visual design of an independent test rig: its water supply, components, spray zones, controls, and the evidence needed to evaluate performance.

Where we are today — Visual concept and research planning. Hardware has not been selected, assembled, or fire-tested. The concept is not connected to a home and is not available as an installed protection product.

The proposed water path

One independent supply.
Separately controlled zones.

A dedicated tank would supply a filtered water circuit. A pump would move water through monitored lines to a valve manifold, allowing individual spray zones to be studied separately. Component selection and hydraulic sizing come after the concept review.

  1. 01

    Water tank

A defined supply, with a proposed level sensor to show how much water remains.

  2. 02

    Filtration and pump

Filter compatibility, pump capacity, and service access would be selected together for the test conditions.

  3. 03

    Pressure and flow sensing

Measurements would help distinguish a requested valve opening from actual water delivery.

  4. 04

    Zone valve manifold

Separate branches would support controlled comparisons of spray patterns and water use.

  5. 05

    Sprinklers and test surfaces

Different commercially available nozzle types would be evaluated on non-building test targets before a design is selected.

Water delivery

Measure coverage, not just activity.

A running pump does not establish effective surface coverage. The proposed research would record delivered water, distribution across test targets, runoff, and changes under controlled wind conditions. We would compare nozzle arrangements before choosing a configuration.

Resource awareness

Make limits visible.

The concept includes monitoring of water level, pressure, flow, and power state. Later tests would examine low supply, blocked outlets, leaks, and interrupted power or communications. Operating limits and responses remain engineering questions to validate.

Independent control

Keep responsibility clear.

A dedicated controller with manual stop and isolation provisions is part of the proposed architecture. Any future actuation would require engineered controls and qualified review. A conversational AI model would not directly operate pumps or valves.

The role of Measured Decision

Turn a test into a reviewable record.

We intend Measured Decision to connect a test configuration with its observations: which components were used, which zone was requested, what the sensors reported, and what was measured at the target. The proposed interface would make missing evidence, conflicting readings, and uncertainty visible to a human reviewer.

At this stage, this is a planned workflow. The existing software demonstration uses synthetic scenarios; it does not establish real hardware performance or a validated connection to a physical sprinkler system.

From visual concept to tested hardware

  1. 01 · Now

    Visual system design

Describe the layout, water path, component roles, control boundaries, and questions the research must answer. No house connection.

  2. 02 · Next

    Engineering and component selection

Develop hydraulic and electrical requirements, then review compatible, commercially available parts and an itemized prototype specification.

  3. 03 · Planned

    Water-only bench testing

Measure coverage and consumption on a controlled stand without fire. Document repeatability, operating limits, and failure responses.

  4. 04 · Future

    Independent performance evaluation

Specialist-led testing would be needed before any claim about wildfire protection or consideration of a building installation.

The questions that guide the work

Why begin with an independent test rig?

It lets us define and study the water supply, spray arrangement, and sensing together without assuming access to a home's plumbing or power. The first deliverable is a visual concept; a physical rig would follow engineering review and component selection.

Will the system use parts that can actually be purchased?

That is the design intent. We plan to evaluate commercially available tanks, pumps, filters, valves, sensors, controllers, and nozzles. No specific manufacturer, part number, capacity, compatibility, or price has been approved yet.

What would count as evidence of progress?

A documented configuration, repeatable measurements, recorded water use, tested responses to faults, and review by qualified specialists. Successful water delivery alone would not prove protection from embers, radiant heat, or wildfire.

How does this fit Climate & Wildfire Intelligence?

Outdoor water spray is one proposed research option within a broader effort to compare mitigation measures, their costs, resource needs, limitations, and potential benefits. Its value must be established alongside other approaches rather than assumed from the concept.

Does this replace established wildfire precautions?

No. This concept is not a substitute for evacuation, official emergency instructions, applicable building requirements, or established property preparedness measures. We do not claim guaranteed protection, certification, or readiness for deployment.

Our aim is to develop something that can be examined, measured, and improved — with clear evidence before performance promises.

From observation to decision

What happened is measurable.
What happens next is a decision.

The system creates a continuous evidence layer around a physical environment and turns change into structured, reviewable decision support.

  1. 01 · Observe

    Capture what is actually happening.

Video, images, spatial capture, documents, sensors, timestamps, and human observations.

  2. 02 · Measure

    Understand what changed.

Compare current conditions with plans, prior states, requirements, schedules, or expected progress.

  3. 03 · Understand

    Connect evidence and consequences.

Surface discrepancies, missing information, progress, risk, and downstream impact.

  4. 04 · Decide

    Present the next decision clearly.

Recommendations, alternatives, supporting evidence, uncertainty, and human approval remain visible.
